Cosmetic Benefits

Cosmetic Facial acupuncture is often chosen as a natural alternative or complement to other cosmetic treatments and may assist with:

  • Softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Enhancing skin firmness and lift (using targeted motor point activation techniques)

  • Improving facial tone and circulation for a refreshed glow

  • Balancing skin texture and pigmentation

  • Supporting acne-prone or inflamed skin

  • Assisting with eczema-related irritation or redness

  • General skin rejuvenation and vitality

By promoting local blood flow and stimulating collagen production, Cosmetic acupuncture works with your bodies natural processes to achieve better skin elasticity, hydration, texture, pigmentation and moisture levels over time.

.

Therapeutic/Neurological Benefits

Facial acupuncture is also used in a therapeutic context to support individuals experiencing

  • Bell’s palsy

  • Post-stroke facial paralysis

  • TMJ and facial tension

  • Sinus congestion

  • Tension headaches

  • Fascial nerve weakness or asymmetry

  • Loss of motion due to nerve irritation/damage or muscular weakness/dysfunction

Treatment includes the use of motor-point and neuromuscular acupuncture, which aims to stimulate specific facial muscles and nerve pathways to support improved movement, coordination, and function. This approach is commonly used to assist neurological conditions like Bell’s palsy and Post-stroke paralysis where the goal is to reduce local nerve inflammation, support circulation, and encourage health nerve signalling. Acupuncture can also stimulate the release of biochemical messengers involved in healing and nervous system regulation. Treatment typically involves a combination of local points along the facial nerve and systemic points to support whole-body function and balance.

Facial & Cosmetic Acupuncture in Mornington

Integrative Facial Acupuncture for Skin Rejuvenation & Functional Support/Neuromuscular Recovery

At Peninsula Acupuncture and Natural Medicine in Mornington, we offer Cosmetic & Facial/Neuromuscular acupuncture to address a variety of conditions.

Facial and Cosmetic acupuncture is a gentle, holistic treatment that can support both the appearance and functional health of the face. It can be used for cosmetic goals such as softening fine lines, improving skin tone, and encouraging a fresh, lifted appearance through motor point activation in the facial muscles and improving collagen production in the face.

Additionally, cosmetic acupuncture can help address common and chronic skin concerns such as acne, acne scarring, skin dryness, flakiness, sensitive or reactive skin, concerns with tone and texture, pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

In addition to cosmetic benefits, facial acupuncture can also be used for functional health of the face, assisting in the treatment of facial neurological conditions including Bell’s palsy, post-stroke paralysis, and other forms of facial muscle disfunction or weakness.

This style of acupuncture treatment uses the insertion of fine needles into specific acupuncture and motor points of the face to encourage local circulation, reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production, support nerve activity, and help re-engage muscles that have become weak or inactive in the face.

How Facial Cosmetic, & Neuromuscular Acupuncture Works

Improved Circulation.

Facial acupuncture increases local blood flow, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

This may help brighten the complexion, reduce inflammation, and support a healthier and more

vibrant appearance.

Collagen & Tissue Support.

Gentle stimulation of facial acupuncture points may encourage collagen activity, helping skin maintain

elasticity and firmness.

This can assist in softening the appearance of fine lines and supporting long-term skin health.

Neuromuscular Activation (Motor-Point Acupuncture).

Motor-point techniques target the exact points where nerves meet the muscle.

This may help:

  • Activate weak or under-performing muscles

  • Relax overactive, tense or compensating muscles

  • Support more balanced facial movement

  • Assist recovery in neurological conditions

Stress Reduction and Whole-Body Regulation.

Acupuncture is well-known for promoting relaxation and nervous system regulation.

Reducing stress can positively impact skin health by supporting hormone balance,

reducing inflammation, and improving sleep.

Improved Lymphatic Flow.

Acupuncture, Gua Sha, and lymphatic massage help stimulate lymphatic drainage, reducing puffiness, supporting detoxification, and improving overall skin texture.

Initial Consultation & Treatment Approach

During your initial consultation at our Mornington Clinic, your practitioner will assess your facial muscles, nerve activity, and overall skin health, alongside your general wellbeing through questions regarding digestion, sleep quality, emotional stress, and lifestyle factors. This holistic assessment helps to ensure your treatment plan addresses not only the visible facial concerns, but also any internal imbalances that may be contributing to the condition.

We use a multi-modal treatment approach that may include;

  • Facial acupuncture

  • Neuromuscular / motor-point acupuncture for facial muscle activation or relaxation

  • Micro-current electro-stimulation of facial motor points and nerves

  • Red light therapy

  • Facial Gua Sha and lymphatic massage

  • Internal herbal medicine

  • Distal acupuncture to support whole body balance

These combined methods aim to support skin health, assist facial muscle function, and promote overall rejuvenation.

Treatment Frequency.

For optimal results, we recommend an 8-12 week treatment course, beginning with weekly sessions, then gradually spacing treatments out as improvement stabilise.

Recommended schedule.

  • Weekly treatments for the first 4 sessions

  • Fortnightly sessions for the following 4-8 sessions

  • Monthly maintenance thereafter

Because each session builds on the previous one, results tend to accumulate over time with consistent treatment.

Important to note that treatment schedules can vary from person to person, dependent on age, condition, lifestyle factors and affordability.

We can personalise treatment plans to meet personal and financial requirements, which can be discussed with you practitioner during your initial consult.
