Meet Our Team - Myotherapist Tammy Philippe

What made you interested in studying Myotherapy and tell us about your Myotherapy work life so far?

When my two boys were babies I wanted a new path, something that was fun, allowed me to be around wonderfully diverse people, where I could improve people’s health and wellbeing.

I started in spa work as I gained qualifications, worked with amazing physiotherapists and now a wonderful teams of natural therapists!

What types of massage do you offer and what benefits do you see from regular Myotherapy in your patients?

I do all types of massage: deep tissue, relaxation, sports, pregnancy, cupping, dry needling, lymphatic, whatever my clients need. The benefits of massage are endless. It relieves stress, muscle tension, trigger points and improves lymphatic stimulation, joint mobility, as well as circulation. It also provides my clients with the time to focus on their health and wellbeing.

How can Myotherapy benefit those patients suffering from cancer and chronic inflammation?

For clients undergoing cancer treatment I can tailor an oncology massage to their specific needs. It is very gentle and designed to offer comfort, help reduce nausea, pain and tension. Similarly, patients with chronic inflammation conditions such as fibromyalgia may benefit from massage/Myotherapy when it is specifically performed to calm their stress response and reduce inflammation.

Once you finish your Naturopathy course, will this be something you integrate into your practice? How can these two modalities work together?

I am studying Naturopathy and hope to graduate at the end of next year. Naturopaths look at the person as a whole and take into account many factors that benefit overall health and wellbeing. They use herbal and nutritional medicines as well as dietary and lifestyle modifications to treat patients effectively. Myotherapy gives me another large scope of tools to offer my clients and the two compliment each other, ensuring the best care is achieved for their health journey.

You’re quite involved with Basketball Victoria, tell us about your time scoring for the NBL!

My family love basketball. We are close to starting another great season of NBL. It’s a nerve wracking job at times but it’s the best seat in the house - the people you meet and get to work with are extraordinary.
